چکیده

We herein report a case of Killian-Jamieson diverticulum mimicking a thyroid tumor. Killian-Jamieson diverticulum is a rare form of hypopharyngeal pulsion diverticulum resulting from herniation of mucosa and submucosa through an area of weakened musculture [1]. The diverticulum is caudal to that of the more common Zenker’s diverticulum [2]. These hypopharyngeal diverticula that cause dysphagia sometimes mimic a thyroid tumor incidentally detected on neck US [3,4], because it looks like a hypoechoic mass Dear Editor

Killian-Jamieson Diverticula Presenting Synchronously with Thyroid Adenoma

Killian-Jamieson diverticulum is a rare hypopharyngeal diverticulum, less commonly encountered compared with Zenker's diverticulum. These hypopharyngeal diverticula that cause dysphagia often mimic a thyroid tumor incidentally detected on neck ultrasonography. However, to our knowledge, Killian-Jamieson diverticula complicated by a thyroid tumor have not been previously described. We experience...

Coincidental Killian-Jamieson Diverticulum During Thyroid Surgery: A Rare Cause of Dysphagia.

The aim of this case report is to demonstrate a very rare coincidental existence and management of the Killian-Jamieson diverticulum during thyroid surgery in a patient with dysphagia. An 18-year-old female patient with the complaints of progressive dysphagia and a rapidly growing mass at the anterior cervical region was undergone thyroid lobectomy. Coincidentally, a 2×2 cm Killian-Jamieson div...

Real-time sonography of Killian-Jamieson diverticulum and its differentiation from thyroid nodules.

illian-Jamieson and Zenker diverticula are both rare pharyngoesophageal diverticula. Both are outpouching of the mucosal and submucosal layers of the esophageal wall, which protrude through a muscular gap at the level of the pharyngoesophageal esophagus. When these diverticula are large enough, they can be in proximity to the thyroid gland and may mimic a thyroid nodule.1,2 Thyroid nodules, alt...

Surgical Treatment of Killian-Jamieson Diverticulum

Killian-Jamieson diverticulum is a rare diverticular disease. This disease differs from Zenker's diverticulum in its location and mechanism. Various treatment modality have been attempted, but traditional surgical treatment has been recommended for a symptomatic Killian-Jamieson diverticulum due to the concern of possible nerve injury. We performed surgical treatment by cervical incision. We re...

Killian-Jamieson Diverticulum: Cervical Oesophageal Diverticulum.

Killian-Jamieson (K-J) diverticulum is an outpouching from the lateral wall of the proximal cervical oesophagus and is less commonly encountered compared to Zenker's diverticulum (ZD). These diverticulae arise between the fibers of the cricopharyngeus muscle superiorly and longitudinal muscle of the oesophagus inferiorly. In this report we present a case of a symptomatic Killian Jamieson divert...
